DO YOU HAVE CHARGE OF A COLICKY BABY?
Following are tips on how to calm the colicky infant:
Don't ever, EVER, shake or bounce the baby up and down. Use a very slow rocking motion. About one step per second.
Keep the lights low and avoid loud noises. While colic is often associated with "gas" it is also the result of too much stimuli. Sometimes caregivers try to divert the baby's attention by singing loudly or waving toys in front of them. This only adds more irritating stimuli. Try more calming, soothing actions.
Don't play with the baby's toes and hands while trying to calm him.
Swaddling the baby or wrapping him in a blanket with his arms close to him helps him feel comforted and secure.
When holding the baby, try to help him keep his chin close to his chest, for a more secure feeling.
